research

the reason as to why i am picking this as my question is to get my point across that there isn't much representation of the LGBT+ community even though it has been improving there are still elements that doesn't give good representation for example killing of an LGBT+ character.

How the LGBT community is represented in TV shows in the past decade?

how queer women are represented in TV shows in the past decade?

how has the representation of LGBT developed within the past decade?

as it says in the title this source is about the bury your gays trope, which it talked about how there has been so many deaths of the lesbian and bisexual female characters over the past two television seasons, i found the information very helpful as it was a big part of what i was talking about and to be honest my essay could have just been about this one trope.
  • vox (2016). [video] Available at: https://youtu.be/Rl22caUj-oo [Accessed 12 Feb. 2020].

  • TV Tropes. (2020). Bury Your Gays - TV Tropes. [online] Available at: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BuryYourGays [Accessed 4 Mar. 2020].
again bury your gays, with the amount of research i found on this one trope was unbelievable, which it just proves that there has been so many unnecessary deaths of the LGBT+ community, i found this helpful because it gave me so many examples other then lesbian and bisexual women there is also gay men that are mentioned.
  • ellis, r. (2020). The A-Z of LGBT Tropes (A-E). [video] Available at: https://youtu.be/_voHb4NMHkI [Accessed 3 Dec. 2015].

this is a video about some of the different tropes that i have mentioned in my essay, to which i found this the most useful because if it wasn't for this video i wouldn't have gone into the full search of more tropes and would have just focused on the bury your gays trope, and she is mentioned a few times through my essay.

this is about how queer-bating needs to stop in films and tv, which i found really helpful because it gave me an insight of how bad it really is and that it truly does need to stop which i write a whole paragraph as of why it needs to stop, FALSE HOPE PEOPLE THAT'S WHY.

again another website about queer characters being killed off, with looking at so many i got the feel that this was such a big movement that was going on, to which i got some quotes from to say that one creator is trying to stay away from killing of her LGBT+ characters. this is an article about the film G.B.F. getting an r rating in the us, which helped me talk about the r rating queerness, to which to your surprise its a real thing, which is so wrong to be happening.

this is an article on the fact that Ewan McGregor and Chris Messina joked about their characters being gay, which this helped me get a quote and prove a point that it is bad to queer bait and why it needs to stop.

evaluation.

while doing my research for my first question i came across the idea of talking about the different tropes that i had found which i thought was great for my essay so i adapted my question to go with what i was writing and my research.

each of theses sources have been great and to the point of what i wanted to talk about the one that i had the most help from would be the tv tropes website and the youtube video which gave me a lot of information about all of the different tropes that are used with to represent the LGBT+ community even the the majority of them was bad representation of the lgbt+ community but however i have found in my research that it has gotten better especially in the past 2 years they have had a tv series come back that is just great representation for the LGBT community the L word, which i do mention in my essay i also mention about the teen sensation love simon, and the sci fi western wynonna earp which brings such a great storyline for the lgbt which with in my research i have found that the creator of the show wants to keep away from the tropes as much as she can to get the best representation out there for them. with having so much of my source from the same places i did however find more even though i may have not used them in my essay they are still relevant to what i am talking about.
